Margaret Lawton was awarded a B A Hons. Degree in Art in 1982 and then completed a post graduate degree in Education the following year.
During her twenty year teaching career she continued to develop her own work as an exhibiting artist, showing her work in galleries in London, Sussex, Middx, Dorset and Somerset.
She lives between her homes in Sussex and Purbeck, Dorset and both areas are
a great source of inspiration for her paintings.
In Margaret’s words:
"The dramatic contrast of light reflecting on the sea, rocks and stone, the rise and fall of the Hills and Downs, with so many pathways chiselled in to them over time, add to the fascination of the subject. The changing Seasons, land erosion, and different weather conditions, result in the familiar scene having many visual possibilities. I compose from memories of countless walks; images filtered in this way allow me to capture the essence of some of these elements in terms of Shape, Surface, Texture and Form."
